Classes are rooted in the Kodály approach to Musicianship Training and offer
a creative and enjoyable approach to developing musicianship at all levels.
Teaching is grouped by age range, experience and skill level.
The aim of the course is to train musicians to “aurally
visualize” or “inner hear” the songs they sing and the music they play. To
be able to “aurally visualize” a score (hear it in ones head while reading
it away from an instrument) is an invaluable tool.
In the early stages, pupils engage in the singing of many
songs and play a large number of singing games. At this level the focus is
on playing and enjoying. Games are carefully designed in a pedagogically
systematic framework, gradually introducing the student to reading and
writing music as well as to music theory. It is a practical and structured
course which is both fun and challenging.
Students develop awareness and sensitivity to the sounds they
make in singing, and establish a good singing technique in a relaxed and
focused atmosphere. Classes foster the creative musical impulse, encourage
self-expression and improvisation, and will help students get the most, and
the best, out of their musical instruments.
